Beragam versi game ini selalu diminati oleh para gamer dari jaman ke jaman, nah kali ini EA Black Box sebagai pengembang waralaba ini, merencanakan untuk merilis seri paling baru dengan judul Need for Speed Undercover mulai tanggal 18 November 2008, di hampir semua konsol game yang ada di muka bumi saat ini, dari PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, NDS, Wii, PC, PSP, iPod Touch, iPhone, N-Gage 2.0, sampai mobile phone pula.

Apa sih yang menjadi kelebihan seri game balap ini? Pertama, engine yang digunakan masih sejenis dengan engine di NFS ProStreet karena memiliki keuntungan dari segi simulasi yang dihasilkan, bahkan kini dengan beberapa modifikasi tambahan Undercover makin bertipe Arcade saat dimainkan. Driving style yang lebih ke Arcade menyebabkan kamu hampir jarang sekali melepas tombol acceleration, selain itu jalur balapan yang sempit dan tikungan tajam tidak memberi kamu kesempatan untuk berlama-lama menginjak rem. Saat mobil kamu pacu melebihi 100 km/jam, gambar di sekeliling akan menjadi blur dan semua serasa begitu cepat bergerak melewati sisi kiri dan kanan mobilmu, perasaan yang sangat menyenangkan.

Salah satu fitur andalannya adalah Heroic Driving Engine, berupa gerakan manuver dan beberapa cara yang bisa kamu gunakan misalnya untuk menghindari kejaran polisi. Memang butuh banyak latihan sebelum kamu benar-benar bisa melakukannya dalam game. Fitur ini pun didukung pergerakan kamera yang dapat menangkap semua detil manuver yang kamu lakukan. Polisi di NFS Undercover kini menjadi hal yang tak terpisahkan dalam game ini, dimana polisi memegang peranan yang jauh lebih besar dibandingkan seri lainnya. Ada 9 heat yang akan menjadi indikasi seberapa galak polisi mengejar kamu. Awalnya sih yang mengejar hanya polisi setempat dengan mobil lambat, terus kalau sudah 5-6 heat ganti mobil jadi Nissan GTR, nah pas heat kamu di atas angka itu siap-siap dikejar tak kurang dari 10 polisi dengan mobil macam Porsche 911 dan SUV. Di sinilah, manuver-manuver yang sebelumnya telah kamu pelajari bisa berguna.

Mode game Online bakal menghadirkan tidak kurang dari 50 trek balapan yang berbeda, baik untuk circuit race maupun sprint race. Hal yang tak kalah pentingnya dalam seri NFS kali ini adalah AI, yang mana mobil-mobil di Undercover menjadi sangat sensitif dan harus terus kamu kendalikan dengan hati-hati. Satu catatan, ternyata pengembang memasukkan kembali fungsi AI bernama catch up, yang menurunkan kecepatan AI lawan ketika kamu berada terlalu jauh di belakang mereka, serta membuatnya jadi lebih cepat bila kamu berada di paling depan lomba.
